What a seriously happy start to 2017! I'm so lucky that I got to see my family all up in Chicago on the 30th. The siblings came earlier in the day with their lady/man friends, and after introducing them to Nando's Peri-Peri Chicken followed by a quick caffeine run to La Colombe next door, we hopped over to Navy Pier for a turn at the ferris wheel. The sky was so clear out on the pier, and you could see for miles out onto the lake, with the prettiest pinks in the sky as the sun was just starting to set. I loved every goofy, ridiculous moment - from Sam ripping his pants while impersonating a t-rex to Candice and Dylan's refusals for candid shots (but I still got some good ones anyways hehe). The photos below are mostly from the pier!
The Parks! From left to right, Candice (the youngest), Eugene (the only son), me, and Monica (the middle child heh). I think we've grown closer and closer as we have gotten older and it's safe to say they are my best friends.
In case you were wondering if Andrew made it off the ground, the answer is no.
The view of Chicago from the ferris wheel! Unreal.
So happy for this group picture, and even more lucky for the last one! A kind stranger I randomly asked took the photo, and I I think he must be some sort of photographer because he just held my clunky DSLR with ease and took some great group pictures for us - so thank you, sir!
By the end of the day, our noses were red and Monica's feet were dying, but we had such huge smiles on our faces, I'd say the cold was worth it. We made a quick trip to Dylan's Candy Bar then drove out to the 'burbs for Korean BBQ with the parents. We ate, got our clothes a little smelly (Korean BBQ leaves a very distinct smell on your clothes), then drove back down to Indianapolis. A caravan of Asians plus a couple of honorary Asians, you could say.
The family time only continued throughout the weekend. Yesterday was late Christmas in the morning, NYE in the evening, and today was the most fun January 1st I've had in a good long while. Complete with a family trip to the gym because we are Parks and that's what we do. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Here's to more adventures, big and small and with lots of family and friends, in the new year! Andrew and I are actually heading to Philly on Tuesday for some more interviews, if you have any suggestions on where to eat and what to see, we'd love to hear them! Happy new year, each and every one of you.
