"I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, 'Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.'"
Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
Our first hike was chosen on a whim when we saw that the temperatures in the Rockies were in the 'teens and we realized shit, we are thoroughly unprepared for those kind of winter hiking conditions. So we re-routed our plans to a more nearby site in Golden, Colorado, where the sun shone brightly to warm our cold hands and feet.
True to the name of the city, a golden light blanketed the mountains surrounding us all afternoon, contrasting the bright blue sky. More than once we stopped in awe to turn around and realize, damn, our world sure can be beautiful.
Not a lot of words today, just photos to share. This last month has been emotional. I have reasons to be worried, reasons to be excited, reasons to be happy, reasons to feel sober. I want to be careful with my words, be deliberate with my actions. Today, I just want to show you guys a part of our country that is magnificent and inspiring, golden and serene.
Happy Saturday, friends.
