I always love a good food adventure. Andrew and I ended up at Revival Food Hall after he stumbled upon their location through Yelp. And with the trusty camera in hand, we decided to venture into the Loop to check it out. They had so many options, including hot chicken, Detroit-style pizza, and lots of sandwiches. But we ultimately settled on getting bowls from Ahola Poke, the cutest little stand that focuses on, you guessed it, poke bowls. I didn't know about poke until pretty recently actually, after seeing them on the pages of some gorgeous Hawaiian-raised bloggers like Alana and Courtney. Their fresh, colorful ingredient list immediately caught my attention, and once I told Andrew there was a poke place in Chicago, he was sold.
We each settled on pretty different bowls - mine with marinated tofu and greens, his with marinated tuna and brown rice. The toppings totally made the bowl come to life. My own bowl had cucumber, fresh jalepeno, edamame, onion, scallion, tobiko, and some crunchies, topped with the sweet-spicy samurai sauce. Andrew, like he normally does with options, got a little bit of everything. Both of us agreed that it was such a nice change of pace compared to the heavy foods of the season, and we are so happy we got a little slice of Hawaii sunshine this winter. And because it was a food adventure, we treated ourselves to Mindy's Hot Chocolate (medium flavor) afterwards since it was also at the food hall and we are still on that celebratory high from being done with interviews. If you've never had Mindy's (like us!), you're in for the sweetest treat - it was smooth, velvety, sweet but not overpoweringly so. Apparently the main shop is somewhere in up north (I want to say Wicker Park?), where they offer a lot more flavors and I want to go for my birthday now. And every other day.
We still have so much to eat in the windy city. I can't wait to come back! For now, here are some photos from our mini adventure at Revival Food Hall. And since we were in the Loop, we hopped over to the Bean for some good ol' tourist photos. A small, not-so-secret secret: Andrew does not like the Bean. But he humored me and I think we had a good time anyways hehe.
Happy Saturday, friends!
