2017 was a pretty swell year, and I'm almost a little sad to say goodbye to it! We got fancy new degrees and said goodbye to dear Indy, moved up to Chicago and bought our first home together (like adults?!), made new friends and even got a chance to go down to visit old ones. We are learning more about each other - our quirks and our habits, what annoys us and what makes us happy. And I'm learning more about myself - how to be a self sufficient woman, what I want in my life, and taking the time to think a little more before I do.
Being a very goal oriented individual, I still like to sit at the end of the year and make a little list of things I want to work on for the next year. I know the term "resolution" is more and more frowned upon each year. I have mixed feelings about this. I agree that self love and appreciation of who you are without changes is huge, and every person should feel proud of themselves first and foremost. That being said, setting goals for the new year really motivates me, gives me a little extra boost during the dreary cold season where all I want to do sometimes is curl into bed and never get out. Even though that eventually makes me feel poopy. So to this I say, do what makes you feel comfortable. If lists are stress inducing and would only set you back for 2018, don't make them. This upcoming year, let's try and be less anxious together, using whichever roads you need to in order to get to that state.
The thing about my list this year is that it's an awfully little one! So that it feels manageable and realistic. And on that list is exploring more of Chicago, so we got started a little early and went out to West Town this afternoon for a little donut trip! West Town I suppose is actually a "community" rather than a "neighborhood" in Chicago - River West (where we live) is apparently technically in West Town, but it's so damn big and we certainly haven't explored it enough.
And I was craving a donut, so there's that. #tinyasiansgetdonuts lives on!
So yeah, just a few photos from this afternoon because they make me smile. We got the Dark Matter from West Town Bakery, a coffee flavored donut topped with dark chocolate shavings and also got a cuppa of Dark Matter itself, one of the best coffees in the city. We will be back for more sweet treats soon enough, I'm sure.
I hope the start of your 2018 is filled with warm drinks, groovy jams, and happy hearts.
